
Guidelines for Certified User
for LSM 510
The
following are prerequisites for becoming a certified user.
- Submission of a letter from P.I.
requesting User Certification for the Candidate.
- Solid working experience using
fluorescence on a research microscope.
- To study the LSM 510 manual. A copy
of the manual is posted on the spine.rutgers.edu website.
- At least 6 hours of hands-on
training with Confocal Administrator on the LSM
510.

Minimum
4 hours of training with handling of our fluorescence microscope Axiovert 100 and LSM 510 operation.

Minimum
2 hours of supervised operation after the required training.

Special
attention will be paid to the ability of the candidate to follow practices
related to personal safety, equipment integrity and data base preservation.
- User Certification will be obtained
after Confocal Administrator and Center Director
jointly agree that the Candidate has achieved sufficient proficiency.
The
following are guidelines for Confocal
microscope usage.
- P.I. must choose an account, hourly
assisted or unassisted at the time of initial usage.
- Candidates and Users must fill out
User Qualification Form*.
- Candidates and Users must sign in
and off the User Logbook to record their usage.
- Candidates and Users must immediately
report to a Designated Staff User or Confocal
Administrator (Noriko Kane-Goldsmith, ext. 40110) of the W.M. Keck
Center for any
irregularity in the use or function of the LSM 510 and related
instruments.
- Lasers will be turned on and off by
the Designated Staff Users and Confocal
Administrator only.
